“The real value from Enablon comes in the analytics portion on the back end. Once the data is there, what do we do with it? How do we use that data to make really smart business decisions? Enablon helps us do that.”
Mike Nicholus Global Environment Director at Accenture
“Hi, I’m Mike Nicholus. I am Accenture’s Global Environment Director. It’s my job to work with our passionate folks around the world to measure and manage Accenture’s environmental footprint.
We’ve been using Enablon at Accenture since around 2008. And the evolution of how we’ve used Enablon in that time has been pretty significant.
Mostly, right, in the early days, it was just a nice replacement for Excel, a good place to house all of our data. But as we go better and better, as our folks around the world become more and more adept at using some of the features in Enablon and the backend reports, some of the drilldown features. We really started to use it, not so much as a data warehouse, but really as an analytics warehouse. And now that it’s – now that some of the recent advances moving into the mobile space, getting more digital, I’m really looking forward to see how we’re going to use Enablon next.”
Using Analytics to Make Smart Business Decisions
“The big thing that Enablon helps us with is speed. We can measure things a lot of different ways. But I would rather spend more time managing environmental impact, and less time measuring it, and Enablon helps us with that because it’s very, very quick for our folks around the world to input the data that we need. We do that every quarter.
The real value from Enablon comes in the analytics portion on the back end. Once the data is there, what do we do with it? How do we use that data to make really smart business decisions with our sustainability investment dollars? Enablon helps us to that.
We can, for example, when we’re looking at energy efficiency, which is a high priority for Accenture. When we’re trying to figure out where’s the next place we should be installing smart meters or LED light, looking at our portfolio, a pretty complex portfolio, we’re 500 locations around the world, looking at that portfolio trying to figure out where we have a lot of kilowatt consumption, where’s the efficiency? Where are the kilowatt hours per meter for this quarter compared to last quarter? Which locations are trending hotter than they should? Those are the places that we would want to put those investment dollars. Enablon helps us do that.”
“When we initially picked Enablon, it was really important not only to have a partner that was able to deliver on a global scale, as Enablon does, but also that the software itself was able to handle a pretty complex real estate portfolio. Accenture doesn’t own any of our facilities. We’re renters everywhere we go, but we do rent quite a bit of space. And the ability to organize that space, not only on a galactic framework, but getting down into geographic areas, geographic units, countries, provinces, states, cities, the actual office itself. The ability to drive down through a complex real estate portfolio, and reporting up at various points in that continuum was really a big factor in choosing Enablon.”
Leveraging People’s Passion for Sustainability
“Getting excited about any new software can be challenging. It turns out that the way that we’re using Enablon to really drive environmental performance improvement is a pretty good way to get people excited.
A lot of the folks who work at Accenture are very passionate about working for a company that’s environmentally responsible. It’s part of the reason that they joined Accenture. And so seeing that we have a capability like Enablon that helps us really drive performance management is enough to get them excited to get and give it a shot.”
