Making Sense of EHS Data
How did we get here? The answer is Industry 4.0. LNS Research defines Industry 4.0 as:
“The powerful trend leveraging automation and digitalization to transform manufacturing and industrial organizations and reshape industries. It’s a reference to the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution,’ enabling performance breakthroughs on par with those from the first three revolutions. What’s new is the use of cyber-physical systems to connect people, machines, and data in new ways.”
This trend is also known as “Digital Transformation”. EHS leaders have an opportunity to ride this “digital wave” and leverage the great volume of data from the following technologies, to generate valuable insights:
- Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
- Cloud computing
- Big Data analytics
- Mobile applications
- Smart connected devices
Step one is to leverage technology and the digital wave of Industry 4.0 to facilitate and automate data capture. Step two is to make sense of all the data and separate the signal from the noise to improve EHS performance, enable a proactive and predictive approach to operational risk management, and drive operational excellence.
EHS leaders face a risk and an opportunity. The risk is that the digital revolution can feel overwhelming and make EHS leaders technological laggards who are left behind. The opportunity is that EHS leaders can leverage the digital revolution and transform EHS and operational performance.
Next Tuesday, Enablon and LNS Research will host a webinar that will help EHS leaders seize the “digital opportunity” instead of being left behind. The webinar, “From Data to Insight: Harness Advanced Analytics for Operational Excellence in an IIoT World”, will present research on how advanced analytics capabilities can enable a more proactive, predictive approach to EHS and risk management to achieve operational excellence. Key takeaways include:
- How networks of smart, connected devices are revolutionizing industrial operations.
- Why EHS leaders should embrace Digital Transformation, or risk becoming irrelevant.
- How to leverage advanced analytics to move towards predictive risk management.
- Real-world examples of how the IIoT compounds the value of EHS and operational data.
- Steps EHS leaders should take to become digital innovators, and pitfalls to avoid.
