Preventing Incidents Through Mobility: A Real-Life Example
Prevent Incidents by Reducing At-Risk Behaviors
There are many ways to be proactive in safety management. Rather than starting one particular activity or implementing a specific process improvement, it’s the cumulative effect of many changes that allow an organization to be proactive in safety, which leads to compliance and operational efficiencies. But not all initiatives are created equal, some have greater impacts than others. Take for example the prevention of incidents. Any initiative that prevents incidents is critical to achieving proactive safety management. One such initiative consists of preventing incidents and near misses by reducing at-risk behaviors.
Reduce At-Risk Behaviors by Reporting Observations
At-risk behaviors are reduced by reporting observations that may reveal hazards, which can then be addressed through elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, or personal protective equipment. Preventing incidents by reducing at-risk behaviors can only happen if the entire workforce actively reports observations. But how do you encourage workers to report observations? For Lendlease, a multi-billion dollar, global leader in construction and real estate, mobile technologies are the answer. Consider the following progress that was achieved through the use of the Enablon safety app:
- Thousands of workers reporting observations throughout global sites.
- A fivefold increase in the number of reported observations.
Lendlease succeeded in enabling a safety culture where workers are encouraged to report observations, which gives the organization critical information that can be used to reduce workplace hazards, thereby reducing the risk of incidents. Lendlease’s journey is one that can be replicated by other organizations as well, as part of efforts to move towards proactive safety management.
On December 7, Enablon will take part in a webinar hosted by Environmental Leader, and in which Lendlease will provide more details about their journey to achieve proactive safety management. Speakers will include David Rose, Group EH&S Technology Systems Manager at Lendlease, and Noelle Harvey, Senior Product Manager at Enablon.
By improving a multitude of EHS processes with technology and leveraging mobility to empower workers, Lendlease is able to take a proactive approach to safety, and achieve much more than compliance with safety regulations. Register for our webinar to learn more about:
- Current occupational safety and health trends.
- How to prioritize leading indicators to prevent incidents from occurring in the first place.
- Best practices to move beyond compliance to proactive safety management.
- How to leverage mobility to empower workers and drive a safety culture: lessons from Lendlease.
